hydrometPi was developed when researchers at the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Laboratory found themselves using Raspberry Pi technology for an increasing number of projects at the site. Many projects had overlapping components and code that would have been easily shared rather than duplicated and researchers wanted to develop a base for the projects and code that others could use for future work.
hydrometPi projects, using Raspberry Pi customization, are suited to a large range of experience with circuitry and the python programming language. Regardless of whether this is your first time embarking on a project of this nature or you're looking for a basis for greater customization of hydrometeorological measurements, we've got you covered.
The versatility of Raspberry Pis as all-in-one computers on a small scale means that this technology can be used in a broad range of applications and in just about any conditions or geographies. Applications can be in regions with minimal or no conventional telemetry as there are cell modems and Iridium solutions that can be incorporated with the Raspberry Pis. Weather stations, snowpack and lake/reservoir monitoring, data servers, camera servers, and tools for education are all easily accomplished with the platform, its add-ons, and a bit of code!
